13 Jan Tournament @ Bilton Grange

On Saturday the U11 boys hockey A team travelled to Bilton Grange to take part in the Vartan/Veit Tournament for the first time.  They played some fantastic hockey winning four of their six games and drawing the other two without conceding a goal throughout the whole afternoon.   Unfortunately they just missed out on coming home with the trophy on goal difference but it was an extremely positive start to the season.

26 Jan Bedford School With every Year 6 boy representing the school once again, four matches were played against Bedford School on Friday afternoon. All four matches were firecely competitive and very evenly matched with three ending in draws.  The boys thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and the bonus of double (and even triple teas for some) was a real treat at the end of the day.
31 Jan County Tournament A fast start in tournament hockey is always needed and a goal within 30 seconds of our opening game lay the foundations for another great afternoon of hockey for the U11 A team.  Great team performances ensured we were always in the hunt for a top two finish and with four teams on the same points with just one game to go it was always going to be tight affair.  Once again a lack of goals came back to haunt us and the boys narrowly missed out on qualifying for the regional finals.  Well played boys, but the big one is still to come - IAPS.
9 Feb House Matches The first round of hockey house matches saw some fiercely competitive games unfold with Stafford coming out on top winning all three of their games.  What was pleasing to see was the spirit in which all of the games were played in with plenty of hand shakes and cheers at the end of each game - well done boys.  Special mention goes to those who stepped up for their houses and made the brave decision to play in goal - for some it was their very first time putting on the pads!
20 Feb IAPS Tournament @ Haileybury An early start saw the boys head down to Haileybury on a cold Tuesday with the hope of qualifying for the Nationals.  A tough group saw the boys play some great hockey and a few last gasp goals saw the boys win three of their four games and draw the fourth to finish top of their group - a great achievement.  Next up the boys faced New College School int he quarter final with the carrot of reaching the semi and qualifying for Nationals so close. The boys dominated tha game, played some amazing hockey but just couldn't find that winning goal.  Extra time loomed and with our final attack the boys stuck the post after a good short corner routine.  Ten minutes of extra provided plenty of goal mouth action and another post smashed in the dieing seconds but no goals so to penalties we went.  Unfortunately, lady luck was not to shine on the boys meaning they missed out by the narrowest of margins.  Well done boys, you couldn't have done much more to be honest.
24 Feb Kings, Chester (football) On a sunny Saturday afternoon the boys welcomed Kings' from Chester in our annual football fixture.  With three games being played at ocne there was plenty of great football on diaply for all to see.  Some outstanding goals in the dieing seconds of both the A and B games proved decisive with Kings' nicking an equaliser with the last kick of the game and our B team scoring the winning at almost the exact same time.  The C team put in a wonderful performamc and run out winners.  However, the highlight for all (children and parents) had to be Steve's amazing roast dinner after the game = a true delight!
16 Mar Stephen Perse Our final fixture of a disrupted hockey season  saw the A amd B teams travel to Cambridge on what turned out to be a glorious sunny afternoon.  Both teams played some excellent hockey once again and controlled much of their respective games.  After a somewhat shaky start the A team dominated their game with some free flowing attacking hockey that saw they score an impressive 5 goals to run out comfortable winners.  The B team though topped that scoring 7 in total to also win their match in convincing style.  A wonderful end to the hockey season boys, well done to all involved.
21 Mar Tournament @ Laxton (football) So close, yet so far once again!  The boys travelled to Laxton on a warm Wednesday afternoon to represent the school in the annual Laxton football tournament.  Throughout the afternoon the boys played some outstanding football and, as always, were a true credit to the school in terms of their behaviour and sportsmanship.  Plenty of individual talent and excellent teamwork saw the boys top their group with three victories against Laxton, The Peterborough School and Wellingborough. So on to the semi-finals and tight game against Rushmoor saw us progress to the final thanks to a 1-0 win.  In the final we came up against Kings', Ely and although we dominated most of the game just couldn't get that all important goal so to penalties we went. And again, lady luck went missing for us! Runners Up then but the boys really did play well and perhaps more importantly were extremely gracious in defend as handshakes and three cheers were shared with the winners.
23 Mar House Matches More fantastic hockey was on display once again during the second round of the boys' hosue matches.  Plenty of goals were scored in the A team games and some great hockey played in the B team matches as well showed just how much the boys have improved this season.  Again every single child represented their house and each match was hotly contested.  As for the winners ... you'll have to wait until the last day of term I'm afraid!
24 Mar ISFA Tournament @ King's Ely (football) Finally, a week later than planned, the U11 A team travelled across to Ely to represent the school at the ISFA tournament.  With the carrot of heading to nationals and the chance to play at St George's Park as a reward for winning each match was extremely competitive as you can well imagine.  The boys' got off to a somewhat shakey start losing their first group game, but then regrouped to remain undefeated for the rest of the group stage scoring some fantastic goals in the process - one of which came from well inside our own half!  Finishing second in the group saw the boys face The Abbey in the quarter finals and thanks to some valiant, bodies on the line defending at the end we ran out 1-0 winners.  So onto the semis and a match against the hosts,  Kings', the same team who had just pinched us at laxton a few days earlier.  Unfortunately, the result went the same way again, but the boys played well and can hold their heads up high - remember, this is our hockey season so reaching a football final and a semi-final in the same week is a very good achievement.

19 Jan Stamford On a cold Friday afternoon all of the Year 5 boys travelled to Stamford for their first game of the season.  A fantastic afternoon of hockey was had by all, with three teams coming out on top and the fourth just missing out by one goal after dominating their match - we just couldn’t score!  As always the behaviour of the boys was impeccable from start to finish and they thoroughly deserved their warming match teas.  Stand out performance had to be the D team who won 4-0 with Arthur Watson scoring all four goals on his Kimbolton hockey debut.
    26 Jan Bedford School

On Friday 26th January, our U10 boys travelled to Bedford School for their second hockey fixture of the term. All boys played in what were fiercely competitive matches, ending up with a share of the points (2 wins and 2 losses), which was probably a fair reflection. A great afternoon for the boys’ hockey development. Well done.

2 Feb The Perse A tough afternoon of hockey saw the boys travel to Cambridge to face The Perse who once agai proved to be strong opposition. Results didn't quite go our way but the boys battled well and more importantly kept their heads up and tried to play the style of hockey we want to see.  Keep going boys, the perfomances are getting better which means the results will come.
23 Feb Stephen Perse Two very close games of hockey saw our boys just come out on top after finally taking advantage of the many opportunties to score that they created.  What was most impressive was our boys' abilty to maintain space and not get drawn to the ball.  Well done boys.
9 Mar Festival @ Stamford A festival that quickly turned to a trinauglar saw our A and B teams face both Stamford and Stoneygate.  In all four games our boys played the better hockey, moving the ball quickly and with greater purposed whilst again maintaing a great shape.  By the end of the afternoon we had notched up 3 wins and 1 draw, a great effort, well done!

25 Jan The Perse A wonderful afternoon of hockey saw every boy in Year 4 and a fair few in Year 3 represent the school against The Perse.  Four very tight matches were played and for many of our boys it was their first taste of competitive hockey.  Results didn't quite go our way (but only by the odd goal) all apart from the D team who nicked a 1-0 win.  Well done to all involved especially to the three boys (Matthew, Alex and Archie) who made their GK debuts.
8 Feb House Matches An extra round of house hockey was squeeze in due to a fixture cancellation which saw every boy in Year 3 and 4 represent their house in some great games of hockey.  Although much of the play was based down the middle of the pitch when the boys did get the ball wide we were treated to some excellent hockey.  For many of these boys this was their first experinece of competitive match play and they all stepped up to the mark.  A really tight first round saw Wingfield just ahead of Stafford by a single point - all to play for in Round 2 boys!
    22 Feb Stamford
8 Mar House Matches The second round of house matches again saw the boys in every house play some great hockey and with everything to play for results and goals were important.  The lead at the top of the table swapped after almost every match with three of the four houses battling it out for top spot.  However, they can be only one and the winner was ... you'll just have to wait until the final assembly of the term I'm afraid, but it's close, very close!
15 Mar Kingshott On an afternoon that again saw every single boy in Years 3 and 4 represent the school the boys really did themselves proud and showed how much they have improved over the season.  Some great individual performances alongside some excellent team play saw our boys win all five matches.
