Second Form Bushcraft Club

What a wonderful way to make the most of our exceptional school grounds.  This term our Second Form (Y8) Bushcraft Club are attending weekly sessions as they work towards the John Muir Trust ‘Discovery Award’ which encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment. 

Whatever the weather, they pitch the outdoor classroom tent and go about developing bushcraft skills and gaining knowledge about the natural environment around them.  Recent activities have included flatbread making and baking, whittling and willow hurdle making. 

The club concluded with an ‘Overnight Challenge’ when the bushcrafters constructed their own campfire, set up with pot hangers they had carved over fires they had made themselves to heat 'boil in the bag' meals.

Scots-born John Muir (1838-1914) is the founder of the modern conservation movement. Muir was passionate about wild places. He explored them, wrote about them and campaigned to protect them. Muir believed in protecting wild places – for their own sake, and for the wellbeing of people and wildlife.
