    Spiritual life

Our school’s ethos is based on Christian principles and Christian ideals.  We welcome children from all faiths and traditions and those from none. These principles and ideals permeate all aspects of school life from age four to eighteen and we aim to foster moral values and a sense of spirituality which will stay with the pupils forever.

Our full-time Chaplain is responsible for overseeing and leading most services throughout the School. She receives plenty of support from colleagues and encourages plenty of student participation in services and assemblies. She is also fully involved in the pastoral care of the community and is available for pupils of all ages, staff, and parents alike.

At the Preparatory School, children attend assemblies and meetings five days a week. The Chaplain leads an assembly at the Preparatory School every week.  The Upper Prep has a Christian Union which meets as an after-school club.

The Castle’s chapel, once the spiritual retreat of Katharine of Aragon and magnificently decorated by Pellegrini, acts a calm retreat from a busy school day and is a thought-provoking place for worship and reflection. Each of our five Senior School houses worships in the Chapel every week with the services led by the Chaplain.

Throughout the School, we celebrate the main seasons of the Christian Church’s year. Each October, we celebrate our Founders’ Day and, each November, our Combined Cadet Force joins with the village for the Remembrance Sunday Service.

We have thriving Senior and Junior Christian Unions at the Senior School. They hold a joint annual Christian Union Summer Camp which is always fully subscribed and enjoyed by all.

We encourage our Senior School pupils to join our preparation classes for Confirmation.  The annual confirmation service, led by a local bishop, is held in the Spring Term.
