    4 May Wellingborough

The U11 A and B teams travelled to Wellingborough on a lovely Friday afternoon to play their first fixtures of a busy season.  Having won the toss, the A team put Wellingborough into bat first and after some fantastic fielding and accurate bowling we skittled them out for just 50 in 10.1 overs.  Our batting was a little rusty but thanks to a great third wicket stand we quickly reached the target to record a season opening win.  The B team also played some great cricket and although the extras column was the top scorer for both teams they also recorded an excellent win.  Things to work on for both sides but the attitude showed by the boys and their focus in the field was pleasing to see and bodes well for a great season.

11 May Milton Keynes Prep School

On a sunny afternoon the U11 A and B teams welcomed Milton Keynes for what turned out to be two great games of cricket.  Forced into bat first, the A team steadily went about their business and produced a fantastic display of batting and some wonderful running between the wickets to finished on a hugely impressive 143 for 3 off 20 overs.  Huge credit goes to James Pater who secured his first 50 in hard ball cricket, well done.  When it came to fielding, the boys once again played extremely well and bowled the opposition out for 64 with the wickets being shared around.  Another impressive win boys, well done and keep it up!

The B team were also forced into bat and after a steady innings finished on 75.  The boys felt that this might prove to be a little light and it proved to be the case as they lost out by the narrowest of margins - a single run!  Another brave display boys, keep going and victories will come.

12 May Laxton Only the B team travelled to Laxton on Saturday due to the number of our boys involved in the Huntingdonshire Football League Cup Final (well done on that achievement lads!)  Forced into bat first, the B team went about their business scoring plenty of quick singles and even the odd boundary.  There were even two really impressive straight drives for 4!  Finishing on 57 the boys felt it wasn't quite enough but they started well in the field with some very accurate bowling.  Unfortunately, some misfields towards the end of the match saw Laxton reach the target in the final over.  So yet another very narrow defeat, but the progress the boys are making is very positive.
    19 May Stamford Junior

A glorious morning for cricket saw the boys travel up the A1 to face our friends at Stamford and with two teams playing excitement was clear on the coach.  The A team batted first and steadily set about nicking quick singles and hitting the odd boundary here and there, which just about managed to keep the watching mums focused on the cricket and not the royal wedding - mentioning no names!  After an interrupted innings due to injury and an early match tea the boys finished on 109 for 4 which didn't quite feel enough but three quick wickets soon followed and we certainly had a game on our hands.  The boys bowled and fielding fanatically once again and an extremely tension final over saw us just nick victory by 2 runs!  A great team performance which would not have been possible had it not been for Hannah McNish, at the game to watch her brother, stepping up and offering to field when we went a man down due to injury - true Kimbolton spirit!

The B team also put in another great performance and what is most pleasing to see with these boys is how much their batting has improved during the season.  Unfortunately, again they just lost out but with each game they are showing great progress and impressing all of their coaches.

9 June Bedford School The first fixture of a busy weekend for some of the boys saw us face Bedford School on a warm Saturday morning.  With both the 1st and 2nd XI in action there was plenty of cricket to see.  Against two very strong Bedford sides our boys played extremely well and were, once again, a real credit to the school.  The 1st XI just needed to put a few more runs onto their total as they were only narrowly beaten and unfortunately the same could be said for the 2nd XI as well.
10 June Tournament @ Rugby School On another glorious Sunday our top seven players travelled to Rugby School for a full day of cricket.  An unusual format of just 6-a-side didn't seem to worry the boys at all and throughout the entire day they played some amazing cricket.  Our first match, against Rugby CC, saw the boys post a huge total of 95 in just 8 overs.  We then bowled superbly to limit Rugby to just 46-4.  So victory in our first game gave the boys a real boost going into the second match against Bilton Grange.  Unbelievably they performed even better scoring 100 runs and then bowling Bilton out for just 40.  Two wins from two games meant we were already through to the semi finals so the boys took their foot off the peddle a bit when we came up against a very strong side from Caldicott.  Some short bowling saw plenty of boundaries scored and the total proved just too much for us to chase down but again a healthy total of 92-2 was impressive against some very quick bowling.  In the semi-final we came up against Moulsford who had comfortably won their group and another close game was witnessed by the parents.  Plenty of runs were scored by both sides again, but unfortunately we just came away with less which meant we missed out on the final.  So the 3rd/4th place playoff was to be our final game of the day and we were to play Witham Hall.  Winning the toss we decided to put them into bat first and what a decision that turned out to be.  In just three overs we had bowled them all out for a total of just 10 runs after some impressive bowling, quick fielding and great catches.  Our openers polished the victory by hitting 11 in just 5 balls to ensure we finished the day on a high and in 3rd place.  Well done boys, you all played amazingly and were an absolute pleasure to spend the day with.
15 June Bedford Modern Our final match of the season saw the boys travel to Bedford but this time to play Bedford Modern School and it was a lovely fixture to finish on.  Both the A and B teams batted first and some fantastic individual performances with the bat from boys in both teams meant we set two good totals for the opposition to chase down.  Whilst the B team were involved in a very tight finish which saw them grab victory at the death, the A team were far more comfortable thanks to some great catches and some near perfect bowling.  What was most pleasing is that everyone contributed once again with almost every A team player either taking a wicket or directly involved in a dismissal - it certainly showed our strength in depth.  A wonderful way to end a fantastic season, the most successful in my time at the school, well done to all of the boys who have played this year.

    4 May Stamford

Having missed out on a tough fixture against the Perse the previous week due to rain, our Year 5 boys travelled to Stamford on Friday for their first fixture of the season. Every boy in the year group took part in three very close matches, with Kimbolton losing by 1 run in the A game, 6 runs in the B game, and grabbing a win in the C game. A very promising start to the season, and long may the good weather continue!!

10 May The Perse Today's fixture saw every boy in Year 3 and 4 representing the school once again and for many of the boys it was their first experience of competitive cricket.  Although the results didn't quite go our way the boys all tried their very best and had a fantastic afternoon.  The highlight for me was seeing the C teams from both The Perse and Kimbolton sat all together cheering on the boys in the D team match - surely this is what sport is all about, having fun and making new friends!
17 May Witham Hall Another wonderful afternoon of cricket was witnessed this week with Witham Hall travelling down to face our U8/9 boys.  Once again, every single pupil in Year 3 and 4 got the opportunity to represent the school and play in some great and very tight matches.  What was most pleasing to see were the improvements in everyone's play from the previous week which even meant we grabbed the odd win here and there.  Special mention goes to the B team who with 2 overs remaining needed 24 runs to win which seemed a hard task, but the final pair batted amazingly and managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.  Well done boys, great cricket played in the right way and in the right spirit, keep it up!
