History and English - Autumn 2024
Our History and English Masterclasses aim to bring together like-minded Year 5 children from local primary schools to explore these subjects in an exciting and innovative way. Based around the theme of the history of Kimbolton Castle, the activity-based sessions aim to foster imagination plus drama and writing skills against the backdrop of the School’s unique historical setting.
In Autumn Term 2024 we will be holding two identical courses (‘Aragon’ and ‘Popham’) of six sessions. The dates are as follows:
- Saturday 7 September: A Mediaeval Fortified Manor House
- Saturday 14 September: An Imprisoned Queen
- Break for Kimbolton School Open Morning (21 Sep)
- Saturday 5 October: Kimbolton and the Gunpowder Plot
Break for Kimbolton Half Term (12, 19 and 26 October) - Saturday 2 November: The Earl of Manchester at War
Saturday 9 November: Pellegrini and Glorious Revolution - Saturday 16 November: The Great Rebuilding – Vanbrugh at Kimbolton
Each session runs for one hour with the timings outlined in the table below. Please note that the timings are the same as those for the Mathematics Masterclasses but different to the Sciences ones. The first meeting will start with a short briefing for parents.

How to apply
When booking, please select which time you would like to attend.
Although each session is independent of the others, we expect children to attend all the Masterclasses in their course. There is no charge but places are limited and we will run a waiting list so please do let us know if your child can no longer attend.
We have written to the headteachers of participating schools to send out the invitation.
The deadline for applying to the course is 9 August 2024. Please only apply to one masterclass. Your automatic confirmation will book your child onto the event. We will then send your further information/joining instructions with more details about the course, before the end of the summer holidays.
Our next series after this one will be in Spring Term 2025 for 2024-25 Year 5 pupils.
