Founders' Day 2020 Goes Online
School community celebrates annual Founders' Day with an online service.
Our annual Founders' Day service at St Andrew's Church is a key moment in the Autumn term, usually taking place ahead of the half term holiday. This year the event was unable to go ahead due to Covid-19 restrictions, so our community instead marked the occasion with a short online service.
As ever, this was an opportunity for pupils and staff to take a break from busy lives to reflect on the School’s heritage, and to remember its benefactors. Our four Senior School Houses (Balyes, Dawsons, Owens, Gibbards, and lngrams) are named after significant figures in the Schools history: Henry Balye and William Dawson, who were appointed ‘feoffees’ (trustees) in 1600; former Headmaster William lngram 1913-47; and former Housemasters Cyril Gibbard (1911-53) and Kyffin Owen (1920-63).
Founders’ Day was established in its current format by former Headmaster Cyril Lewis in 1950 to celebrate the school’s 350th anniversary. The recently purchased Kimbolton Castle was the centre of that year’s celebrations.
Kimbolton School Chaplain, Mr Peter Crawford, said: “We join together to celebrate the founding of Kimbolton School and to give thanks for over 400 years of education. We remember with gratitude those who have contributed in a variety of ways to the school’s development, working with diligence, perseverance, compassion and skill.”
