Field Weekend 2022
Members of our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) contingent headed out on manoeuvres, with other Senior School groups making use of the time for a variety of activities and trips.
A busy Field Weekend at the Senior School (13 - 15 October) saw members of our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) contingent heading out on manoeuvres, with other Senior School groups making use of the time for a variety of activities and trips.
In the School grounds and in local woods, Army, RAF and Navy cadets from the Fourth to Sixth Forms undertook training exercises, and camped overnight. The Navy cadets additionally took part in sailing activities at Grafham Water and on the Solent, as well as visiting HMS Excellent and other naval museums in Portsmouth.
Other Sixth Formers took part in an Apprentice-style enterprise challenge, while members of our Community Service Unit welcomed visiting pupils from Spring Common Academy in Huntingdon. The group enjoyed a variety of activities, including an autumnal walk around the School grounds.
The Third Form went on a joint History and English trip to Belgium and France, to visit First World War battlefields and memorials. Key stops included Essex Farm Cemetery - the inspiration for John McCrae's poem In Flanders Fields - and Tyne Cot in the rain, an atmospheric reminder of those who died in the mud at Passchendaele. One pupil found his great-great-grandfather’s name on the memorial wall.
The Second Form took part in a Philosophy workshop and additionally visited Cadbury World and Bournville Village to complement their studies of Fair Trade in Geography, and Quaker Philanthropy in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics.
Finally, the First Form thoroughly enjoying team-building activities, both in the School grounds and in Northampton, with problem-solving puzzles, karting, climbing and more.
