On Saturday, 19th October 2024, Kimbolton School’s CCF cadets and musicians from the younger years collaborated with the Royal Anglian Regimental Band for an enriching music workshop, which concluded with an exclusive performance for parents and staff.

The performance included a captivating selection of music from Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Mandalorian, with some of our talented pupils stepping into the spotlight for solo performances during pieces from The Lion King. The concert also featured the well-known British march, "Colonel Bogey," composed in 1914 by Lieutenant FJ Ricketts, adding a patriotic touch to the event.

While cadet training often focuses on physical and military skills, this event offered pupils a different experience and the opportunity to perform alongside professional army musicians and develop their talents as part of a diverse ensemble.

The workshop was ideal preparation for the CCF band members ahead of Remembrance Sunday, where Kimbolton’s CCF will support the Royal British Legion during Armistice Day on Sunday, 10 November. The session was invaluable in ensuring the CCF musicians and future band members are well-prepared for this significant event.

The Royal Anglian Regimental Band, a key component of the Royal Anglian Regiment, led the workshop. The regiment, formed in 1964, is known for its distinguished service, with the band playing an integral role in ceremonial and regimental occasions. Their visit provided pupils with not only expert musical coaching but also a deeper understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within military music.

In addition to the music-making, members of the Royal Anglian Band participated in a Q&A session, offering pupils insights into life as a musician in the army. They shared personal experiences and discussed the structure of a military music career, providing a valuable perspective on the discipline and opportunities available within the armed forces.

This memorable event highlighted the importance of collaboration, skill-sharing, and learning from professionals, further broadening the cadet experience at Kimbolton School.
