    Kimbolton School hosts memorable Ingram House music competition

    On Wednesday 12 June The Lewis Hall at Kimbolton School was abuzz with musical talent and excitement during the annual Ingram House Music Competition.

    On Wednesday 12 June The Lewis Hall at Kimbolton School was abuzz with musical talent and excitement during the annual Ingram House Music Competition. Directed by Mr Gibbs, the event showcased a selection of performances from last week's instrumental and vocal competitions, with students vying for the prestigious Jeffries Cup.

    Esteemed Adjudicator Ms Anne Templer, a renowned percussionist, educator, and critic for BBC Music Magazine, had the honour of judging the competition. The evening featured a range of performances, from solo instrumentalists to vocal duets, highlighting the diverse musical skills of the students.

    The Performances:

    • Eddie P. on recorder, opened with Allegro by W.A. Mozart.
    • Leon P. on piano, played Vivace by Muzio Clementi.
    • Adrien B. sang Caro mio ben by Tomaso Giordani.
    • Alfie G. on violin, performed Moto perpetuo by Frank Bridge.
    • Samuel R. on euphonium, played Great Escape March by Elmer Bernstein.
    • Will Z. on saxophone, performed Party Time by Karen Street.
    • Zita I. on violin, played Youngster's Dance by Iván Szelényi.
    • Oscar M. on voice and guitar, played Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger.
    • Georgie L. on piano, performed In the Groove by Mike Cornick.
    • Zita I. and Lucas R. sang Once Upon Another Time by A. Lloyd Webber.
    • Will P. on saxophone, performed Baker Street.
    • Toby T. concluded the first half with Your Song by Elton John.

    Following the interval, the Ingrams Form Singing Competition took centre stage. Forms competed for the Burns Trophy with energetic performances of popular songs. The song order was drawn at random:

    • The Wilson Cup (highest scoring form in individual competitions) – 1L.
    • The Audience Prize (most enjoyed solo performance, voted by the audience) – Alfie G.
    • The Jeffries Cup (chosen by the adjudicator) – Alfie G.
    • The Burns Trophy (winning form in the class singing competition) – 2D.

    The music department extends heartfelt thanks to Mrs Parle and the catering staff for their invaluable assistance. The evening concluded with a retiring collection in support of the school's musical instrument fund, ensuring continued access to high-quality instruments for students.
